Brent Council has joined Big White Wall, a safe online community for people who deal with mental health issues. Now Brent residents aged 16 and over have access to free online one-to-one therapy sessions via their local NHS.
All they have to do in order to benefit from Big White Wall’s Live Therapy services is introduce their postcode. Their anonymity is guaranteed and the services are available 24/7.
Mirela Bindoiu, 40, of The Avenue, Wembley, said: “I have been struggling with depression and anxiety for years now. I tried counseling in the past, but I had to give up because I didn’t have the time. I usually have to wake up at 4 in the morning to go to work, I get home around 6 in the evening and I am exhausted. I am very excited about this opportunity and I will definitely try the live counseling! It’s so much easier, I can just stay at home and do it!”
Big White Wall combines professional help with social and highly creative therapies. It encourages people who suffer from common mental health issues to interact and find support in each other, while it protects the anonymity of users. Those who are not living in an area registered with Big White Wall have to pay a subscription of £24 per month.
Their services are usually available via the local NHS provider and also some universities and employers that are registered with them. UK serving personnel, veterans and their families have free access.
Mirela said: “ I am pleased that Brent has finally joined! And I really hope more such services will become available for free. People have to understand that those who suffer from mental health issues should have the same rights as those who suffer from physical injuries. Depression is not a choice!”
